Something has gone wrong with the way we eat, and fixing it won't happen by accident.

At Duragarden, we're convinced that food deserves better: it should taste the way it's supposed to, nourish us the way it's supposed to, be within everyone's reach, and be grown without wrecking the planet in the process. That's the standard we're building toward — not someday, but every single day.

I spent part of my early life in a place where produce still tasted the way it should. Tomatoes picked that same morning, herbs still damp from the garden, fruit that actually smelled like something before you bit into it. That memory has stayed with me, mostly because it's gotten harder and harder to find.

What we call "fresh" today usually isn't. Crops are doused in chemicals, picked green, and shipped across continents before they ever get the chance to ripen properly. By the time food reaches a plate, most of what made it worth eating is already gone. And the consequences are showing up everywhere — in rising rates of chronic illness, in a planet that's paying the price for how we grow things, in a food system that trades quality for shelf life. Nutrition, not scarcity, is quietly becoming one of the leading threats to human health worldwide. None of this is inevitable. It's the result of choices about how food gets grown — and those choices can change.

That's the problem Duragarden exists to solve.

We build on three shifts that are finally making a different way of growing possible: smart, efficient lighting that gives plants exactly what they need regardless of climate or season; soil-free growing systems that let food be produced vertically, compactly, and at a scale that fits into real homes and real lives; and intelligent monitoring that does the quiet, constant work of keeping a garden healthy — no green thumb required.

Put together, this means anyone can grow serious quantities of real, flavorful, nutrient-dense food indoors, year-round, in barely any space at all — no soil, no guesswork, no expertise, no wasted time. Modern life doesn't leave much room for a garden. Duragarden makes room for one anyway.

Fresh food shouldn't be a privilege

This is bigger than convenience. We want to see this technology reach neighborhoods that today are cut off from real, fresh food entirely — not just households with the space and budget for a backyard plot. Picture homes, schools, offices, and restaurants all growing a share of what they eat, right where they are. That's a future where cities produce more of their own food, depend less on long, wasteful supply chains, and reconnect with something they've largely lost: knowing exactly where a meal came from.
